El Toro All-Comers Meet Reflection and 2/22-28 Training Plan

Athletes,

Coach Eisele and I are very proud of the effort you all put into the El Toro meet!

These meets offer an opportunity to assess your current fitness, learn/practice race strategies, and just have fun competing. As we go forward, it will be important to learn from both training and racing.

In your races, I challenge you to come to the line with the right attitude. Some nerves are okay, but really, you need to attack your racing with a positive, joyful, and competitive attitude. Yes, there will be pain, but that will be short lived. Focus on all of the training you have completed in preparation. Remember your teammates, coaches and parents who have supported you. Push yourself to see what you can achieve, and finally, the faster you run, the sooner you get chocolate milk!

El Toro Results

In your training, it is paramount for each of you to run within yourself. Please don't take this to mean that training will be easy, but we have a range of fitness-levels within our group and it is tempting to push harder than you should at times. Each workout has a specific purpose and if you run faster or slower than the prescribed paces, you won't be getting the true benefit of the workout. Please try to be honest with yourself:)

Keep running,
Coach Horton

The Season Draws Near: Upcoming Meets, Rest, Nutrition, and This Week's Training Plan

Athletes,

We are less than a month away from the official start of the season. With this in mind, our training will be getting more intense. As I have stated before, proper nutrition and rest are paramount to staying healthy and having a good season. Please do your best to make sure you are taking care of yourself!

In regards to training, it is also very important that you are running the correct paces during workouts. We have a variety of different fitness levels in our group, and it is important that you are not trying to run paces that are far outside of your current fitness. Workouts will be hard, but you don't want to be "going to the well" too often or you'll break down.

We will be participating in two more "practice" meets in the coming weeks. On February 20th, the El Toro All Comers Meet (http://www.prepcaltrack.com/wp-contentdata/uploads/2015/11/ET-All-Comers-Meet-Info.pdf) will give you an opportunity to fine tune your racing strategy and test your fitness. The 1600s start at 9:00 (arrive by 8:00) and the 800s will start approximately an hour later, although exact times will be determined by the number of entrants.

On February 27th, we'll be racing the Laguna Beach Distance Carnival (https://lagunabeachdistancecarnival.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/laguna-beach-distance-carnival-meet-schedule-of-events1.pdf). For this event, we'll need to preregister, so please let me know if you can attend. Entry for this meet will be covered by the school's track budget and Coach Proodian asked me to remind you to please make a donation to the team.

Please see the link below for this week's training plan.

Keep running,
Coach Horton
